For the benefit of those in the rest of India who unfortunately can't listen to Ranjith's speeches in Tamil and discussions about it ,except for the twisted version that "mainstream Savarna media " seeks to propagate , the following is a small attempt at providing context , a comment in a friend's post which I have posted here .

For over a century now , every periyarist here has been exposing every brahminical king and his casteist deeds .
The point is Ranjith has been taking the side of the Brahmins by saying they have been unnecessarily vilified by the periyarists for a century to fool the Dalits into subjugation and that the entire problem with the caste system is only because of a few landed shudra and vellala castes and not the Brahmins .
He says shudra lands must be expropriated (but not Brahmins and temple lands ) .
he has converted the entire anti caste struggle here into a simple binary confrontation Between merely the populous SC and the landed shudra ( not Brahmins ) and has invisibilized the very existence of the 100s of minority castes ( both sc and BC ), let alone acknowledge their active participation in the anticaste discourse .
This being the real chain of events , almost as if to reinforce his efforts , the populous and landed shudra elements in the lower ranks of the police and the RSS have sought to amplify this binary by filing cases on flimsy grounds.
The indian savarna media is using this occasion to further take forward it's agenda that caste is not a Brahmins problem but only SC- OBC problem and giving full scale front page coverage to this discourse
